FIRST is a non-profit organization For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology for high school students. The intent of FIRST is "to create a world where science and technology are celebrated... where young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes..." -Dean Kamen (Founder of FIRST).
Each FIRST team has six weeks to build a robot to play a game created by FIRST. Each team then competes in regionals held across the world. Teams may compete in the Championship event in Atlanta!
FIRST's Accomplishments
As well as inspiring many students to pursue careers in science and technology FIRST has also been able to get many educators to join in. Last year over $9,000,000 in college scholarships were given away to students who are involved in the FIRST Robotics Competition. Not only are college educators joining in, but many government officials are working to get FIRST teams into many schools in the nation.
